Maison & Objet Recap – Day 1 !

September 17, 2018

Hey all !

I hope you followed my stories from Maison & Objet directly on Instagram, but if you didn’t, here’s your chance to catch up on what I saw !

I was only able to attend 2 out of the 5 days because going was a last minute decision and I had plenty of work to finish but I still managed to see the best of the best! So here’s a run through of everything that stopped me in my tracks, from old favorites to new, wonderful discoveries :

(Disclaimer : I didn’t have my camera, only a phone so all pictures are from the brands’ social media accounts or direct websites)

  • Les Ottomans

Les Ottomans is an amazing resource for Ikat/Suzani throw pillows, with an emphasis on silks and velvets. It’s a very unique mix of traditional craft and what feels like modern patterns. You may have seen this babies before, but this is THE place to get them !

  • Pols Potten

Pols Potten is a company out of Amsterdam that makes a lot of modern, fun pieces. Now very modern and shiny isn’t really my personal preference as you may have noticed, but I have to them credit because I loved their accessories ! In particular they do dyed plants, like the ones above, in all kinds of color that are absolutely amazing up close. Their tabletop collection is also wonderful and they have completely weird out-of-nowhere objects that I found fascinating, like this “souvenir” vase for instance :

  • Asiatides Paris

Asiatides had a huuuge booth, made of several different spaces, all color-coded. So many beautiful pieces to fit each color scheme, lots of asian pottery and beautiful classic shapes, and the variety in color insured you would find the perfect piece to fit your own decor.

  • Boboboom

Boboboom is a French company mostly known for their lighting, but they also make a few seating options. Their most famous style is the “bouquet” – a cool mix of different fabrics and sizes on classic french lampshades with fringe, and it’s absolutely adorable (and totally customisable) !

  • Doing Goods

Doing Goods was completely unknown to me and I’m sooo glad I was able to make such a wonderful new discovery. First of all, these guys have “Treasure Hunters” on their business cards, so you know it’s going to be good. I don’t think I can explain fully what they offer because the answer is everything ! Jewerly, home accessories, textiles, all in a giant variety of styles and colors that really feel collected from all over the world. Check out their lookbooks and you’ll see what I mean ! There were so many small, beautiful objects, I could’ve stayed an hour at that booth !

  • Mariska Meijers

I love Mariska on Instagram and having been stalking her since I saw these pillows !! We finally got to meet and she is such a sweetheart… She also makes a bunch of other wonderful items, like trays, art, and even wallpaper, but I will just never get over the pillows !

  • A Modern Grand Tour

This was a big moment for me, because I have been drooling over this floor lamp for ages. Just imagine that I kiss its picture every night before bed. So last week, I finally got to see it in person, and of course it’s perfect and magical and I’ll never be able to afford it ! It was an extra treat to get to see the mini table lamps and chandelier as well, such a lavish and elegant booth ! Sigh…

  • Objet de Curiosité

In the middle of my Day 1 visit, I happened upon this booth and just got my mind blown completely. This is Objet de Curiosité . This was favorite thing of the day, no question. The booth once again was pretty big, made a 5 or 6 separate spaces, all in a different style, color, and vibe, and they were all absolutely glorious. Their collection offers everything you could ever need for a “cabinet of curiosity” accent in your home, and they had incredible pieces, like giant pink stones and coral in all shapes and colors, as well as snake skeletons and giant magnifying glasses, but what really stuck with me was the décor of these spaces, the inspiration it gave me, that is what made this place special.

  • Vermissen

I then took a walk to the Vermissen booth, which had some really fun accessories and furniture in a huge range of styles. I found a lot of cool individual ethnic pieces that really caught my eye, but also crazy items like this sofa ! How cool is that ? I feel like this shop is a really treasure trove and I really need to dive deeper into their collection but it seems like a fantastic resource !

  • Kare Design

I 100% wanted to touch everything at the Kare booth. An amazing mix of modern, very glam, edgy and super-super colorful, Kare is the fun, crazy brand we all need in our lives. The booth was crazy, and full of multicolored wonders, and it all started with this incredible gold gorilla, only to be outdone by the giant glittery elephant standing nearby. It was just such a shot of happy and fun, I absolutely recommend it : go check out their stuff, there’s something for everyone !

  • Ian Snow

My last stop of the day was when I halted in a very dramatic fashion after seeing the most amazing sofa ever made. I mean, come on !! I ended up chatting with the lovely ladies at the booth and had to pry myself out of there before having to explain the hole in my bank account and the new sofa that wouldn’t fit in my apartment. I have been plotting and thinking of ways to buy it in the near future though, I neeeeed it, but I just couldn’t afford it as an impulse buy… ! Ian snow has some amazing stuff for the bohemian home of your dreams, like unique vintage furniture, and throws, all in beautiful, smile-inducing colors ! Run to their website and check out their collection !

So that’s it for Day 1, I don’t want to overload you guys with too much eye candy ! I’ll post Day 2 tomorrow so you can see the rest 🙂

Finally a little last minute note, the voting for the Amara Interior Blog Awards for which I was nominated is closing on Wednesday, so if you feel like voting for me, go for it !
