Well hello lovely people ! Feeling very refreshed after a lovely weekend by the sea, today I am back in action and I want to kick off this Monday by sharing a very recent design I did for a client that is just too good not to share ! She came to me with the saddest home office in the world – with brown carpeting to match -, and the desperate need for a cool space that is all hers, and boy did we deliver.
Now side note, I straight up love this woman, we clicked hard right off the bat, and it was a total blast creating this room. Her style is such a great match to mine and she was so decisive and easy to work with. We’ll be doing another room very soon and hun if you’re reading this, let me at that whole house !! 🤪
What struck me when she spoke about the space was she said it felt outdated and “70’s”, but in a bad way, so during the design process I actually did incorporate somewhat subtle 70’s elements and touches mixed in with bold and modern pieces to kind of own it instead of fighting it. I wasn’t sure she’d respond to it but it’s what spoke to her the most in the end, so I was very pleased we turned it into a positive ! It’s true, I use subtle psychological ninja techniques on my clients… 😂
Let’s dive in and talk about the room, so this is what we were working with :
It’s a long narrow room with lots of window (a big bonus!) and a decorative fireplace at one end. This room is an everyday home office for my client but it’s also a sometimes-guest bedroom. What stood out to me at first is the bed isn’t used as much as the office space but it takes up the most space and I really wanted to flip that and give her a big-ass desk to feel like she can do anything from this room, like become president. So we discussed getting creative with it and decided a Murphy bed was the way to go.
Now, being in the running for client of the year, the cherry on top is that this couple is of the “roll up your sleeves and do it yourself” variety so after a quick chat, it turns out getting rid of the uglier elements of the room was actually very doable and within a couple of days, they had removed the popcorn ceiling, the shiplap on the walls and the carpeting, like goddamn heroes. In e-design this never happens, let me tell you, so we had a clean slate to start from scratch and go all out.
Literally, less than one week after our call :
Now I won’t go step-by-step in showing you where we started with the concepts and how we tweaked things until it was all done because in truth there weren’t many changes from the original concept … we call that a home run ladies and gentleman 😎😝
So instead, let’s bask in the final look together and imagine stepping into this utterly fabulous office, full of texture, half neutrals and half bold color – all Lady Boss™ 🤘
Here is the new view from the entrance, where the desk used to be :
A little bonus look with the bed open and in use for guests.
To the left, a few new items : built-in wood bookcases to warm up the space and add visual interest + storage, a perfect hangout reading space in a sexy, sexy velvet chair, and we decided to create a drywall box around the fireplace to hide it temporarily for our purposes (but it can be removed when they move out, without hurting the original fireplace), complete with a limewash paint for a little extra cozy texture.
And on the other side, the big boss area with a huge desk and matching “I rule the world” chair, a little pooch area because they will follow you in any room you work in, and a deliciously oversized gallery wall and wallpaper accent feature for good measure !
On our end, we are so happy with the design and so excited to see this room get transformed into this amazing, cozy, welcoming haven that she can fully enjoy everyday (and use to wow her guests too !) so I hope that feeling is contagious and you really liked it too !
Even if it’s not as much as us. Because this is us :
I’ve been working on some fabulous rooms since this summer and I can’t wait to share more so keep your eyes peeled and I promise to show you more of these ! In the meantime, I’ll be back on Friday for some fun Weekly Finds ! Have a good week ✌️
