Art Spotlight : Also Known As Africa 2022 Edition

October 24, 2022

It’s that time of year !
If you follow this blog you know I am obsessed with AKAA, the yearly art fair in Paris displaying up-and-coming african artists. You can see previous recaps here and here where I take you through the show and share my biggest crushes of the year. Now usually it’s all about the photography, which is so high voltage, unique and personal with such an accent on close-up portraits, something that speaks to me on a deep level. But this year photography wasn’t the main attraction (although the ones that made the show were gorgeous!) and to my surprise, I still found a lot to love in the paintings and discovered some extremely cool new works and artists.

Come take a virtual tour with me through the amazing display of creativity for this year’s edition !

Talut Kareem

Tafadzwa Masudi

Saidou Dicko

Prudence Chimutuwah

Kwame Sousa

Very unique fire art by Pedro Pires

Ruan Jooste

Derrick Ofosu Boateng

Tafadzwa Tega

Thandiwe Muriu

Kevin Mackintosh

Theresa-Anne Mackintosh

This one is a side discovery as this artist is under the banner of the same gallery as
some AKAA artists but it really caught my eye so I’m sharing him too !
Stephan Gladieu

It’s always such a fabulous show, and this is just a fraction of the amazing roster of artists represented, so make sure you check out the website for all the other works that might speak to you, and as always go follow these artists and give them all the love online !
