The Coolest Finds of the Week

April 7, 2023

Happy Friday ! Wooh, what a week ! If you follow along on Instagram, you might have seen I had an amazing cultural escapade through Paris with the fabulous Allison Crawford, sauntering from museum to museum through the sunniest Paris we’ve had in a while. We toured the amazing Maison La Roche designed by Le Corbusier, checked out the Yves Saint Laurent Museum and ended at the opening of the new big exhibit in town : Warhol x Basquiat at the Louis Vuitton Foundation. By the end my legs were wobbly and my face was sunburnt but I slept like a baby and I filled with inspiration and drive to get to work on my first new painting since 2018 (!!)
It’s coming along great and will be one of two new pieces to fill my walls up in an effort to finally reveal my new digs,
so it’s all very exciting and I can’t wait to share !

For today though, I’m coming back down to earth and sharing some very cool new finds to inspire you guys to add a little funk to your homes, with links as always 😉 Today is very pink as you can see, I spotted this fabulous art piece yesterday – an instant must have, paired with the coolest chair at Anthropologie, a disco ball sconce, beautiful books and some cheeky accessories ! Have a fantastic weekend, I’ll be holed up here painting and working on some cool new projects !

A Virtual Tour of the Art Paris Fair !

April 3, 2023

Good morning art lovers ! If you follow my stories you may have seen I was down for the count for a few days last week, and it couldn’t have come at worse time as there were multiple fantastic exhibits happening in Paris and all my beautiful dreams of attending them all were vanishing before my eyes while I was stuck, in bed, surrounded by tea, layers of blankets and nothing to distract me from my crippling migraine and surrounding nausea. It was delightful all around 👌

While I missed what looked like an insanely cool show at PAD, a luxurious design fair full of bold and sexy creations, and an appearance by Ms Kelly Wearstler herself, I did manage to roll out of bed just in time for Art Paris, a huge contemporary art fair celebrating it’s 25th year. Hindered by the Paris marathon – because nothing can never be easy – I still made it all the way across the city to bask in this giant glow of creativity and discover some new fantastic artists and pieces !

I’m working on painting two new pieces for my home currently to finish up my makeover so this shot of inspiration
was so welcome and I’ve been giddy with ideas ever since 🥰
Feast your eyes on some of my favorite discoveries from the show :

Woo Kukwon

Marion Verboom

Noh Sang-Kyoon

Gert & Uwe Tobias

Luis Vidal

Kwesi Botchway

Betty Tompkins

Andrés Felipe Orjuela

Roger Edgar Gillet

Seyni Awa Camara

Samuel Yal

Nabil El Makhloufi

Andrea Galvani

Casper Faassen

Dhewadi Hadjab (these are oil paintings … in person they are unreal 😳)

And last but not least, I was delighted to check back in with some old favorites from the Also Known As Africa show
– some I’ve featured here before – through Galerie Carole Kvasnevski :

Angèle Etoundi Essamba

Zanele Muholi

If you’re looking to discover more artists this way, I’ve done a few series over the past few years to cover my various explorations in Paris : you can find them under the ART tag of the blog. And as always, make sure to show some love to the artists !
Have a beautiful, creative week !

Artist John Goodman’s Maximalist Haven in the Bronx

March 27, 2023

Today is a little short and sweet tour for two reasons : 1/ I got a loooot of work to do 😅 and
2/ a way sadder reason : there are very few photos of this space, in fact that’s all of them ! Which… boo.
Now I’ll be honest, I don’t think fifty photos would have been enough for me anyway, I need to see the rest of the space,
all the details, it’s all so good ! I searched far and wide on the interwebs but alas, no luck…

Why yes Toni, so the reason there are so few pictures, is because this amazing spot is actually part of a book,
and not just any book, but one of the most awaited and celebrated ones in recent history : Aphrochic !
I had been lusting after this book since the pre-orders were announced last summer and let me tell you, it does not disappoint.
Part home tours, part history – it’s so personal and unique, I can’t recommend it enough !

So only five photos but, I didn’t want to let that deter me because my god, it’s awesome !
You know I love an off-beat home, maximalist to the damn brim, full of color and wonders, and this one hits the spot 100%.
You won’t be surprised to find out this condo is the home of an artist – duh – the very talented John Goodman, whose creations you can follow on Instagram here. John is a fellow collector of “all things that make you feel good inside” and you can just feel how much this is his happy place. He has over 70 African masks as of last year, and apparently multiple storage units to store all the things he brings home … ultimate life goal 🤤 What I love about the art selection here is the amount of texture and shape they have, things are coming out of the paintings, sculptures are taking up space, it’s not subtle art to help round out the room’s palette, it’s art that demands that you look at it and engage with it … My favorite kind 💜

So join me in taking a very slow tour through these photos and let’s relish them, feasting on all the details. I hope this will inspire all of us for the upcoming week ! Go forth and be bold my design friends !

If you’re interested in the rest of the tours, find the book at Walmart or Amazon :
