More Art ? Yes ! It’s the Paris Photo Fair 2022 Round-Up ! (Part 1)

November 14, 2022

Morning all !! Ok, our schedule is all kinds of messed-up, it’s true ! So here’s what happened :
a little over two weeks ago I went into extra sick mode with acute tonsillitis and it sadly kept me from posting all the good stuff I had planned. I started getting better a few days ago and turns out, it was just in time for the Paris Photo Fair
(a first for me since it’s usually on the same weekend as AKAA …)
So I was delighted to go and check it out (it’s HUGE !) but it takes precedent here on the post because I gotsta to share 🤩 !
Aww, dammit, I guess we’ll just have to look at pretty art again !

Let’s dive in for the first round of beautiful pieces that caught my eye this weekend :

Todd Hido

Federica Belli

Aurora Király

Chien-Chi Chang

Herbert List

Stephanie Pfriender Stylander

Art Kane

Milja Laurila

Roger Ballen

Martin Parr

Daniel Josefsohn

Iosif Kiraly

Gabby Laurent

Alp Sime

Larry Fink

Jim Goldberg

Now this last selection by Jim Goldberg is so captivating, the photos are haunting but the written notes add such a layer,
wooh, that really got me. Just wonderful pieces.

Ok, so as you can see from the title, there is still more to come ! Seriously this show was so huge, I’m pretty sure even though I was thorough I missed like 1/4 of it 😳 So stay tuned for the rest and let’s keep exploring amazing and beautiful art, always ! 💜

Art Spotlight : Also Known As Africa 2022 Edition

October 24, 2022

It’s that time of year !
If you follow this blog you know I am obsessed with AKAA, the yearly art fair in Paris displaying up-and-coming african artists. You can see previous recaps here and here where I take you through the show and share my biggest crushes of the year. Now usually it’s all about the photography, which is so high voltage, unique and personal with such an accent on close-up portraits, something that speaks to me on a deep level. But this year photography wasn’t the main attraction (although the ones that made the show were gorgeous!) and to my surprise, I still found a lot to love in the paintings and discovered some extremely cool new works and artists.

Come take a virtual tour with me through the amazing display of creativity for this year’s edition !

Talut Kareem

Tafadzwa Masudi

Saidou Dicko

Prudence Chimutuwah

Kwame Sousa

Very unique fire art by Pedro Pires

Ruan Jooste

Derrick Ofosu Boateng

Tafadzwa Tega

Thandiwe Muriu

Kevin Mackintosh

Theresa-Anne Mackintosh

This one is a side discovery as this artist is under the banner of the same gallery as
some AKAA artists but it really caught my eye so I’m sharing him too !
Stephan Gladieu

It’s always such a fabulous show, and this is just a fraction of the amazing roster of artists represented, so make sure you check out the website for all the other works that might speak to you, and as always go follow these artists and give them all the love online !
