Casa Decor 2022 – The Prettiest & Boldest Spaces of the Year

April 11, 2022

Ahhhh…. the sun is shining, birds are chirping and it’s that wonderful time of year again. That’s right, it’s time for Casa Decor, where extremely talented designers showcase their wild spaces in Madrid ! In classic show-house style, every designer gets a different room and vibe, sponsored by specific brands to create unique, no rules spaces – and no one does it better than Spanish designers.

As a little reminder, this is the crème de la crème from the past few years,
to this day some of my favorite design inspo ever :

So let’s dig into the new fabulous rooms from this year ! I love seeing the trends represented, for instance above you can see there was a big pastel moment in the last few years, mixed in with very very bold use of bright color. This year there was a lot of softer tones, almost earthy and neutral, and for the bold spaces, that delicious shade of cobalt blue “Klein blue” is everywhere, along with high octane red or orange so it’s very contrasted. I don’t usually love the neutral rooms but there were a few that spoke to me this year, so let’s start there and build towards the crazier ones 😉

Virginia Gasch

Jaime Jurado & Mónica Bartolessis

Miriam Alía Mateo

Patricia Bustos

Angelina Sanz & Alvaro Latorre

Tomás Alía

Fran Cassinello

Virginia Albuja

Virginia Sanchez

You will not be shocked to learn that this last one is my ultimate favorite of the year of course 😉

It’s always such a delight to dig into those spaces and get out of the more classic American design bubble. I subscribe to a lot of international magazines for décor – something I highly recommend by the way – they always have really different and interesting approaches to décor, all of them wilder, which is obviously something I connect to a lot, but Spanish designers are definitely in a league of their own. I always cherish this show-house and I hope you did too !

Surrealist Wonderland : A Thrilling Penthouse by Studio Job

April 4, 2022

Back to our regular programming this week, I’m taking you on a tour of a wild and unexpected project from the mind behind Studio Job, belgian artist Job Smeets ! This fabulous and insane penthouse is the home of fashion artist Rolf Snoeren – from Viktor & Rolf.
And it’s straight bonkers. But you know, the good kind ;p

A lot of the pieces are from Studio Job directly, setting the tone for this wonderland – a few in particular caught my eye like this fireplace below, turtle feet detail on the bed frame, the dining table and a porcelain axe as wall decor. If they had me over I would spend sooo much time looking at and touching everything like an annoying weirdo. And then be never invited back. Worth it !

A special shout-out to the bold monochrome bathrooms and playmobil inspired castle door !
