Inspiration Friday – Open-shelving

October 20, 2016

It’s finally Fridayyyy !  I’m looking forward to a nice, relaxing, oh wait no – I have to rip out kitchen cabinets and drill a whole bunch of holes all weekend long, never mind !

It’s actually pretty exciting, I can’t wait to see how it looks without those monstrous things taking up all the visual space and making the kitchen appear much small than it is.
I’m a little anxious about the state of the wall behind them but wait and see …

I’ve been drawing up some ideas for the past few weeks and I finally, definitely, truly decided to go with open-shelving in the kitchen. Yes, it shall be gloooorious !

The walls behind the shelves are staying white so I’m going with an exotic, orange-tinted wood, and black brackets. The wood is actually super basic pine wood that I tinted myself and it looks fabulous!  Adding wood to the mix is going to warm up the whole kitchen and make me want to spend way more time in there than those huge ugly white cabinets (they make me very angry…).

I know most people will say you need closed storage for the ugly kitchen stuff, and the unavoiadable dust that comes with it, but I’ve made my peace with it. It was pretty easy actually because I’ve never not drooled over open-shelving. Besides I’ll be using the banquette storage for the really purely practical stuff, but for the shelves I’ll just refine my tableware collection and only display the pretty stuff. And I also planned for an extra open storage unit on the floor against the wall for all the food. I really like glass jars so I’m starting a little collection …

So today I wanted to show you some of the great open-shelving kitchens that inspired me to go for it. I hope it inspires you too!

This is actually pretty close to what I’m going for, with some added color to the mix ! And of course, jars, jars, jars.

velvetjungle-inspiration-kitchen-3The rustic version is pretty awesome as well, I love the thickness of the shelves, they’re gorgeous. Bonus pots and pans on the ceiling !

A little vignette for the magnetic strip-held knives. I really wanted to do this but I’m afraid to drill in the tiles… I may have to rethink it.

Why not add some fun in the kitchen ? This blue wall is beautiful, especially with very dark shelves. And adding art ? Genius.
